Internship
Most people are surprised when I tell them I am a solid B/C student. Classrooms have never really worked well for me as that learning environment made me feel anxious and even distracted. It was important to me when I got to college to find as many ways to learn and grow (and show that learning and growth) through other experiences beyond what my GPA could symbolize. I have done a lot of work outside of the classroom through seminars, hands on field experiences, and more to make the most of my college experience. Becoming part of the Yosemite Leadership Program Summer Internship was not only proof of how far I have come, but proof that there are other ways to learn that will bring you just as much success. No matter what you choose to do, you're going to have to put work into reaching your goals. You might as well enjoy that work! If I limited myself to working tirelessly to be perfect academically, I would have missed out on emotional, leadership, and professional growth. I now have options forward after college because of the learning and connections I made outside of the classroom.
